Creative Critical Reflective #2

2. HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT ENGAGE WITH AUDIENCES AND HOW WOULD IT BE DISTRIBUTED AS A REAL MEDIA TEXT?

Michael and I's film The Girl engages with our audiences in many ways. Our movie had a very large fan base that followed Michael and I's social media accounts very well. The marketing team also even created a fake Instagram account for "The Girl", played by Mae. The team posted important things on this account. The fans also kept up to other important interviews, signings and more. Lastly, the team organized for billboards to be posted in urban location, this ultimately gained a lot of excitement for the film.

For starters, the most important way of getting excitement for The Girl was through social media. The actual "girl" had social media accounts on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. This was to get a fan base of all ages excited. Michael and I saw this marketing form being used on the popular 2015 horror movie Unfriended. Their marketing team did a similar technique where they made fake accounts from the point of the view of the dead girl. This was very thrilling and doubled the movie's fan base. After seeing how effective this was, Michael and I thought it would be a perfect form for marketing our movie. We created multiple of the same accounts on different social media's and created post up until the day Mae's character went missing. This really added to the overall scary effect of the movie and made it seem more realistic. The social media's show creepy or unusual comments left by Michael, the killer, on a lot of Mae's pictures. The social media accounts were also used as a place for the film's information. The actors posted important interviews they had coming up or other interesting things they were doing. Also, the films release date was posted on the social media sites. Along with trailers, fan competitions, merchandise and Q & A's. The social media was the most efficient way of getting out this information because of this generations involvement with it. The movie's target audience was a younger teenage crowd and the way to get their attention was through social media.

Another way information on the film was spread out to groups of people was through the use of billboards. The team arranged for ten billboards to be hung all around Times Square in  New York City. This was great publicity because of how populated Times Square is. Different billboards were hung and left there for a two weeks each. Thousands of people were walking by and observing them each day. Overall The Girl should do well in theaters. A majority of our fan base is teens or young adults. Teens have an easy time relating to the characters in the film. Our movie also addresses certain global issues that many young girls deal with on a daily basis. Of course, our movie is a more extreme example of a stalker but it's good for the teens to see. It can be thought of as a wake up call for children to always be aware.

Michael and I's movie distribution process will be quite similar to the rest. To begin, we will release it to theaters across the globe. The movie will be distributed by Paramount Pictures. Movie cinemas like AMC and IMax will release The Girl and play it for around 3 to 4 weeks in theaters. This will allow the movie to play for a month, including multiple weekends. This helps the profit of the movie a lot since the movie is out for a long time. DVD and Blu Ray versions of The Girl will not be released until the 90 day mark. The movie will be available for download on things like Amazon Prime, Google Play Movies and TV, YouTube and more. Our distribution team arranged for the film to be placed onto the popular movie and television websites Netflix and HBO Go. The Paramount Pictures Home Media Distribution group got the licensing and rights to stream The Girl on Netflix and HBO Go for a total of 6 months. This will make the movie spread more and more now that it is available to homes worldwide.
