Film Project Genre Research- It (1990)

My second film is the original It from 1990. In this opening scene not much of the story is told except for the fact that the clown and his first target are introduced. The first few shots are on the close line outside of a house. The sheets on the line are blowing around rapidly and the clouds are dark, this foreshadows that a storm is coming. Next, the camera cuts to an insert of a plate of teacups that are filling with water. The tea cup scene is when the editors of the film are introduced, the font is big and bold so the audience can read it. Once the names disappear, the camera cuts to a lower mid shot scene of a little girl riding her bike. In the scene she is signing "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" while the camera moves along diagonally with her feet on a tract. The supervising producer of the film is introduced and it is shown with big texts across the entire scene. The next shot is a wide shot of the little girl as she arrives at her home, then there is a shot reverse shot of the little girl and her mother communicating. After this there an insert shot of the little girl's doll laying on the ground, the following shot is a close up of her face looking confused to why her doll is there. In this opening excerpt there are many scenes indicating there is a storm coming, one scene is a low angle of the sheets blowing on the close line. The next shot is a point of view shot from the clowns perspective inside the close line, it cuts to a close up on his face and then a close up on the little girls. Through out this opening scene there is a lot of atmospheric sound and dialogue. Also, there are many props for example the little girls bicycle and the sheets on the close line. This movie was given 12 million dollars for it's creation, and it gained an estimated 30 million viewers. It was rated the highest watched program of the week
